SOLOIST

At school, David was a regular soloist with the chamber and college choirs, but it was with NYCGB and at University that he discovered a flair and passion for solo performance.

David first performed a solo with NYCGB on their tour to the USA, singing music composed by the conductor of the choir, Mike Brewer OBE, in such venues as the Walt Disney Hall, Los Angeles.  From there, he has gone on to perform many solos with NYCGB, including the Bass solo in Karl Jenkins’ ‘The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace’ in the Royal Festival Hall under the composer.

At University, David’s solo career has had its strongest boost.  He has performed regularly in services with the Schola Cantorum of St. Barnabas’ Cathedral, Nottingham and performed solos during concerts including works by Fauré, Schütz and Vaughn Williams.  He also performed as a soloist with Viva Voce on many occasions in venues such as the Albert Hall and the Royal Concert Hall, both in Nottingham.

David performed with the University of Nottingham’s Opera Society, OpSoc, in their Christmas Cabarets in 2009 and 2010 and in their productions of ‘The Magic Flute’ (as Sarastro) in 2010 and ‘The Marriage of Figaro’ (as Figaro) in 2011.  He also had a very successful run as the Sergeant of the Police in the University of Nottingham Gilbert & Sullivan Society’s 2011 production of ‘The Pirates of Penzance’.

As well as these, David has become a highly praised recital singer, having performed a recital per term for his course.  In apprecitation of this, up-and-coming composer, Alex Patterson, wrote the song cycle ‘Among the Streams’ especially for David.

CHORAL

As a choral singer, David began his career at the tender age of five, singing with choirs and madrigal groups at St. Olaves’ Prep School, London.

From here, he moved on to sing with at least six choirs and close harmony groups at Eltham College, where he studied under Timothy Penrose.  With Eltham College’s Choirs, he travelled to the USA and Rome and also performed in such renowned locations as the Blackheath Concert Halls and St. John’s Smith Square, London.

While at school, David began to expand his experience, singing with the Omega Consort, a professional London-based youth chamber choir.  He also, in 2007, became a member of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain.

With NYCGB, David has toured the West Coast of the USA, collaborating with celebrated composer Eric Whitacre.  Other projects with NYCGB include the Messiah with Northern Sinfonia under Nicholas McGegan in the Royal Albert Hall for the BBC Proms 2010, Karl Jenkins’ 10th Anniversary Concert of ‘The Armed Man’ (including the première of his ‘Shakarim’) and Mahler’s 2nd with the Simón Bolívar Orchestra under Gustavo Dudamel for the 2011 BBC Proms.  Through NYCGB, David has studied and had workshops with Felicity Cook, Ghislane Morgan and Judy Bellingham.  As of 2010, David is the 2nd Bass Section Leader.

At the University of Nottingham, David was a member of the University Choir and university chamber choir, Viva Voce, for each of the three years he was there.  He was also awarded a choral scholarship with St. Barnabas Cathedral while studying, where he sang with the Schola Cantorum under Neil Page.

In January 2011, David was asked to record with the professional chamber choir Laudibus, without audition, of which he is now a regular member.
