About the event
As he seduces his way across Europe, bedding 1,003 women in Spain alone, Don Giovanni’s toxic masculinity is a challenge not only to human morality, but also to God. Broad comedy rubs up against tense drama in Da Ponte’s libretto, and the beauty and terror of Mozart’s score are evidence of a supreme musical dramatist at the height of his powers.
Alessandro Talevi’s eclectic production follows this legendary womaniser, whose outward charm masks cruelty and violence, through time and space, bringing fresh insights to Mozart’s darkest, craziest opera. Sparkling music, vivid characters and dramatic bite combine to create a work that is both endlessly entertaining and profoundly unsettling.
